Clippers G Darius Garland’s reaction to Stephen Curry’s eruption sums it all up

Over the last 15 years, plenty of NBA teams and players have fallen victim to Stephen Curry. The Golden State Warriors superstar has terrorized many teams in the postseason over the years, and tonight he added the LA Clippers to the list.

Curry, fresh off of a two-month absence thanks to a knee injury, looked like his old self in the Warriors’ 126-121 win in Los Angeles. He dropped 35 points on 12-for-23 shooting and 7-for-12 from the 3-point line in 36 minutes, blowing past his minutes restriction to extend the Warriors’ season for at least one more game.

After the game, Clippers point guard Darius Garland summed up Curry’s brilliance in the simplest terms.

“30 did what 30 does,” Garland said.

Curry was very quiet in the first half but exploded in the second, coming up with big shot after big shot to keep the Warriors in it while the Chippers tried to pull away. LA went up by as many as 13 points in the fourth quarter, but Curry still led his team back. With less than a minute to go, Curry put the Warriors up for good with a classic stepback 3-pointer.

Curry also got a major assist from Al Horford, who kept the Warriors afloat during his brief stint on the bench at the start of the fourth quarter. Horford hit four 3-pointers on the night and had 14 points. Kristaps Porzingis added 20 points, and Draymond Green got a number of clutch defensive stops down the stretch to seal the deal for Golden State.

On the Clippers side, Kawhi Leonard scored just two points in the fourth quarter as a part of his 21 for the game. Garland matched those 21 points, and Bennedict Mathurin finished with a team-high 23.

The Warriors now move on to the second Play-In game, where they will play for the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference on Friday night. Golden State will head to Phoenix to play the Suns after Jordan Ott and company lost to the Trail Blazers in the first West Play-In game on Tuesday night.
