Mets’ Juan Soto officially returning from injury vs. Astros

Reports on Friday indicated that Juan Soto was going to return from his calf injury relatively soon, as the superstar slugger claimed he thought he might skip a rehab assignment. On Saturday, leading up to the game against the Houston Astros, the New York Mets finally announced his return to the majors.

The 27-year-old outfielder was officially reinstated from the 10-day IL and will be active for the contest against Houston. Infielder Eric Wagaman was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse to make room on New York’s 26-man roster.

“We have made the following roster moves,” the Mets announced on X. “OF Juan Soto has been reinstated from the 10-day Injured List. INF Eric Wagaman was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse following last night’s game.”

It’s been an injury-riddled campaign for the nine-year veteran. The game against the Astros will be just Soto’s 85th of the season. The Mets are hopeful he’ll return and improve the offensive production immediately, as Soto’s been as good as ever when healthy this year.

Through 293 at-bats entering Saturday’s contest, Juan Soto has recorded 83 hits, 21 home runs, and 52 RBIs. He owns a solid .283 batting average and .408 OBP. While the Mets are on the outside looking in on the playoff race, the club will be glad to have Soto’s bat in the lineup for the final few weeks of the regular season.
