Clippers’ Darius Garland reveals injury status after crashing out of play-in

The Los Angeles Clippers were sent packing on Wednesday after a massive meltdown against the Golden State Warriors, 126-121, in the Play-In Tournament at Intuit Dome.

The Clippers held a 13-point advantage in the fourth quarter, but they allowed the Warriors to chip away at the lead, led by Stephen Curry and Al Horford. Golden State broke the tie, 120-117, with 50.4 seconds left after Curry’s three-pointer.

The Clippers failed to recover from there, missing the playoffs for the second time in five seasons.

Darius Garland had 21 points, five rebounds, and eight assists in a losing effort. After their exit, he stressed that he has been playing hurt, as reported by The Athletic’s Dan Woike.

“Darius Garland says he’s playing on ‘nine toes.’ Says the right toe he sprained earlier this season is fine. Garland had surgery on his left big toe last offseason. He said the plan this offseason was ‘to get healthy,'” wrote Woike on X.

Garland was limited to only 45 games this season due to his toe injury. He suited up for 19 games with the Clippers since being shipped by the Cleveland Cavaliers at the trade deadline.

The 26-year-old Garland had trouble containing Curry, who exploded for 35 points, including 27 markers in the second half.

The Clippers buried themselves in the fourth quarter as none of them were able to take over for Kawhi Leonard, who was held to two points in the said period.

Leonard finished with 21 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and five turnovers. Bennedict Mathurin had 23 points, including 5-of-6 shooting from long range, three rebounds, and three assists.
