Chiefs’ Cyrus Allen suffers apparent knee injury scare during training camp

The Kansas City Chiefs are getting some tough injury news at their training camp. Wide receiver Cyrus Allen appeared to suffer a knee injury during camp on Saturday.

“Cyrus Allen collided with Kaiir Elam as a gunner on a special teams punt rep. Allen stayed down with his helmet buried in the turf (and) then needed help to get off the field,” ESPN’s Nate Taylor posted to X, formerly Twitter. “Allen left the field in the front of the cart with what appeared to be a left knee injury.”

Allen is hoping to make himself a key target in the Kansas City passing offense. He is a rookie that was selected in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

“He’s done a nice job,” Chiefs head coach Andy Reid of Allen recently, per ESPN. “The quarterback trusts him.”

Allen had spoken this summer about how much it meant to him to catch passes from Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. He and Mahomes had already created some special moments together in training camp.

“In the first 7-on-7 period, Mahomes went through his reads during one rep, surveying the field before finding Allen as his third option. Running a fade route, Allen and Mahomes connected on a contested back-shoulder pass near the sideline, the highlight occurring against Nohl Williams, who has been the Chiefs’ best cornerback so far in camp,” ESPN reported.

Allen loved to see that attention from his quarterback.

“It’s still a surreal moment for me because I used to play the [Madden NFL] game with Pat a lot,” Allen said about Mahomes. “I’m pretty familiar with what he [does]. That was my favorite team.”

Allen played his college football at Cincinnati, Texas A&M and Louisiana Tech. Chiefs fans hope that he is back on the field soon.
