Vikings’ Justin Jefferson dishes on Kyler Murray-JJ McCarthy QB battle in training camp

There’s one burning question around the Minnesota Vikings’ training camp: who will be the starting quarterback in Week 1? Last season, Jefferson struggled to connect with McCarthy on the field. The Vikings star wide receiver still notched over 1,000 yards, but his production was well below his usual standard of play. McCarthy struggled to get the ball to his receivers accurately, leading to a ton of interceptions and frustrations. Despite the team’s struggles, Jefferson remained positive, a trait that can be seen in his response this offseason.

Murray also had his fair share of struggles during the 2025 season, which led to him being benched for a significant amount of time. However, the new Vikings quarterback also has a ton of experience under his belt and more good seasons than bad. Head coach Kevin O’Connell has also developed a reputation as a “quarterback whisperer”, which could bode well for Jefferson and the rest of the receiving core.

The Vikings unfortunately have to contend in a surprisingly competitive NFC North. The Green Bay Packers are threats as usual, while the Chicago Bears are slated to get even better after clinching the division last year. The Detroit Lions are also a dark-horse, even though their luster from a few years ago has faded.
