Chelsea v Port Vale prediction
The international break came at a good time for Chelsea, who headed into the fortnight off having lost each of their last four matches in all competitions.
On paper, Liam Rosenior’s side’s return to action is a kind one, as they’ve been drawn a home tie against a Port Vale side sat rock bottom of League One, as they bid to reach the semi final of this season’s FA Cup.
The Blues’ bad form of late has seen them knocked out of the Champions League and drop out of the top five in the Premier League table, now a point behind Liverpool and with their place in next season’s Champions League under serious threat.
The chance to reach a Wembley semi final will come as considerable respite for the west London club, whose season could be seen as starting to unravel with just seven games of the league campaign remaining.
Stamford Bridge has been far from a fortress for Chelsea this season, only boasting the 12th best home record in the Premier League, with just six teams having won fewer games in front of their home fans than the Blues, who have won only six of their 15 league games so far.
Port Vale have become resigned to the reality they will be playing League Two football next season, their 4-0 defeat at Wycombe last weekend leaving them 14 points from safety with just eight matches left to play.
Jon Brady’s side make the trip to the capital having lost three of their last four matches, and won just one of their last six since beating Premier League side Sunderland to reach the last eight of the FA Cup for the first time in 72 years.
The Valiants head to Stamford Bridge as heavy underdogs with 62 league places separating the two sides, and the visitors having lost each of their last three matches on the road.
Saturday’s match will be the first competitive meeting between the two teams in 97 years, almost to the day, when Port Vale won 1-0 in a second division clash, with the last most recent game Stamford Bridge ending 3-3 earlier in the campaign.
Chelsea should have no problem getting past their League One opposition on Saturday evening, with a heavy home win looking likely, perhaps a 4-0 scoreline the most plausible.
Chelsea v Port Vale betting tips
Valiants bow out to bruising Blues
Chelsea will be determined to get back to winning ways after stumbling into the international break with four consecutive defeats, and with the FA Cup now their only chance of winning any silverware this season.
Port Vale are sat rock bottom of the League One table with three defeats in their last four games, including a 4-0 thrashing by Wycombe last week, leaving relegation to the fourth tier almost certain.
- Chelsea to win to nil at 8/13 with BOYLE Sports
Neto to net
No player expected to start on Saturday has scored more goals this season than Pedro Neto, who has already scored four goals in three FA Cup appearances this season, including a hat trick at Hull in the fourth round.
- Pedro Neto to score at EVENS with Midnite
Oh no, Ojo!
Port Vale midfielder Funso Ojo has received more bookings this season than any of his teammates, having picked up his eighth of the campaign in last season’s heavy defeat to Wycombe.
- Funso Ojo to be carded at 2/1 with Midnite
