Chelsea place £40million star up for sale after just a year at the club

Alejandro Garnacho is for sale this summer, talkSPORT understands.

As talkSPORT reported in April, Chelsea are open to selling Garnacho just a year after he joined the club for £40million from Manchester United.

It’s understood that the Blues will not consider a loan exit for the Argentina international, as they want to get rid of him permanently.

Several teams are interested in signing him during this transfer window, but no club-to-club talks are currently underway.

In talkSPORT’s report earlier this year, it was revealed that the club’s hierarchy had accepted that Garnacho’s move hadn’t worked out.

The 22-year-old only scored one Premier League goal during his first season as a Chelsea player last term.

He featured 24 times in the top flight, but only started on 14 occasions, struggling to hold down a first-team place.

Across all competitions, he played 43 times for the Blues in total, scoring eight and assisting four goals last campaign.

Of those eight, four of his strikes came in the Carabao Cup, while two came in the FA Cup and one in the Champions League.

Garnacho failed to stand out in what was a dismal year for Chelsea, which saw them play under three different managers.

One of his highlights of the season did not go in his favour either, as his clash against old side Man United ended in a nightmare.

The Red Devils players laughed on social media after a performance from their former teammate that didn’t impress.

A new era

Chelsea are entering a new stage this summer as Xabi Alonso will lead them into the new campaign as boss.

Alonso will hope to challenge for the Premier League title in his first season, with no European football to be played.

But it appears that Garnacho isn’t going to be in his plans, after talkSPORT’s Gabby Agbonlahor warned him about the winger.

So, it seems Garnacho may be forced into a second summer move this year, with another fresh start coming.

And he’ll be ready for a fresh slate after completely changing his style too, revealing a shock new haircut last month.

Garnacho was pictured with fully braided hair as he enjoyed his summer away from football.

Chelsea transfer movements

Chelsea may be set for a busy transfer window as they look to offload stars and bring in plenty of new faces.

Alonso has already signed full-back Marco Palestra to mark the first arrival since his appointment as boss.

Meanwhile, a move for Granit Xhaka was rejected by Sunderland and the veteran midfielder is set to remain with the Black Cats.

And in terms of exits, Enzo Fernandez may not be getting his move to Real Madrid, while Andrey Santos is attracting interest.

Man United are keen on signing Santos, talkSPORT understands.
