Chandler Parsons blasts Raptors’ Brandon Ingram for ‘bad optics’ Game 1 comments

The Toronto Raptors playoff run got off on the wrong foot with Brandon Ingram’s comments about head coach Darko Rajakovic’s game plan after their Game 1 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Raptors’ leading scorer wasn’t fond of the coach’s strategy of playing the offense off him instead of through him, which led him to take out his frustrations post-game. It isn’t a move that Ingram should’ve done, according to Chandler Parsons via Run It Back.

"The message isn't wrong. He's their best scorer… but don't say this after Game 1. It's premature, very bad optics wise. … If I'm Cleveland, we have Toronto where we want them."

The Raptors came into the postseason after a great regular season, securing a matchup against the Cavaliers as the fifth seed. Toronto finished 6 games back of Cleveland during the regular season, but had some confidence heading into the series after sweeping all 3 games. However, it put the Cavaliers on notice for Game 1, and they went on to beat the Raptors 126-113. It was a tough night for Ingram, who finished with just 17 points on nine shots, with seven of his points coming from the free-throw line.

RJ Barrett led the way for the Raptors with 24 points, while Scottie Barnes chipped in 21 points. While Ingram’s lack of a contribution was one issue, the bench also had a rough night, as Colin Murray-Boyles was the only player who contributed with 14 points. The next highest scorer from the bench was Ja’Kobe Walter with seven.

Ingram and the Raptors have a chance to even the series before heading home on Monday night as they battle the Cavaliers in Game 2. It’ll be intriguing to see whether Rajakovic gives in to Brandon Ingram’s demands or continues with the same game plan from Game 1.
