Celtics fans are confused after Brad Stevens’ powerful Butler message

Fans of the Boston Celtics almost had a heart attack after Brad Stevens, the team’s president of basketball operations and general manager, penned a message about Butler’s hiring of Ronald Nored as its new coach.

Nored played for Stevens when the latter was still calling the shots for the Bulldogs, reaching the national title game together in 2010 and 2011. Nored, who had been an assistant coach of the Atlanta Hawks since 2023, will now try to do the same for his alma mater.

Stevens congratulated Nored on his new achievement. Butler shared a quote card with a picture of Stevens and Nored on X.

Fans, however, got confused by the caption, “Ready to write the next chapter,” thinking Steven was returning to Butler. It didn’t help that Stevens’ name was written in a bigger font.

“Ain’t gonna lie, heart skipped a beat with this one at first. Go Cs,” said @andrew_loring.

“Congrats to Brad Stevens?” posted @jokingofcourse.

“This is confusing AF. Thought you got Brad back,” added @EgglestonM55482.

“You realize that no one outside of your program has any idea what this means?” asked @MaxxKolbe.

“Uh, wait. Huh, what?” commented @Jhildz.

“I almost fell to my knees,” wrote @CaseyThurlow.

Just to be clear, Stevens is not leaving Boston to return to Butler.

He and the Celtics are deeply focused on the playoffs, where they will face the winner of the game between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Orlando Magic in the Play-in Tournament.

Nored, for his part, will try to help the Hawks defeat the New York Knicks in the first round and go on a deep run before starting his new job with the Bulldogs. He will replace Thad Matta.
