Cavs-Knicks Game 2 injury report will thrill NBA fans everywhere
Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals shifts enormous pressure toward Cleveland after the Cavaliers let a major opportunity disappear in Game 1. Cleveland held a 22-point fourth-quarter lead Tuesday night before the Knicks produced one of the largest playoff comebacks in franchise history, storming back for a 115-104 overtime victory and a 1-0 series advantage.
The Cavaliers now face a major test entering Game 2 at Madison Square Garden. At the same time, fans will be pleasantly surprised at the injury report for this game considering both teams enter the contest completely healthy.
While Larry Nance Jr. was listed as questionable for Game 1 due to illness, the Knicks had also listed OG Anunoby as probable due to his right hamstring strain on the official injury report. However, while Nance Jr. did not play any part, Anunoby started Game 1, returning with 13 points and five rebounds.
Both the players are now fully fit in what is a rare occurence especially in the postseason this year. Cleveland will be hopeful of a similar start in Game 2, and will want to complete the job this time around.
Through three quarters of Game 1, the Cavs largely controlled the matchup. Donovan Mitchell led the Cavaliers offensively with 29 points, five rebounds, three assists and six steals, while Evan Mobley supplied 15 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks.
However, it was the Knicks’ Jalen Brunson who completely changed the game late. Brunson erupted for 15 fourth-quarter points as New York outscored Cleveland 30-8 to erase the deficit before dominating overtime 14-3. Brunson finished Game 1 with 38 points on 15-for-29 shooting and will once again be hoping to lead his team.
Since falling behind Atlanta 2-1 in the opening round, New York has won eight straight playoff games. Seven of those victories came by double digits while four were by at least 29 points. Regardless, the Cavs will now hope that their own stars in the form of Harden and Donovan Mitchell can lead them to wins, failing which they will be looking at a straightforward exit, considering the Knicks have found form in the most important stretch of the season.
