Cardinals player hits home run in first MLB game 11 years after professional debut
The St. Louis Cardinals handed Bryan Torres a long-awaited MLB elevation Friday. Torres responded by delivering this long-awaited milestone Saturday in an 11-year journey: Home run No. 1 against the Cincinnati Reds.
The left-handed batter pounded a two-run home run blast during the ninth inning. Torres smacked a four-seam 95 miles per hour fastball to get the crowd on their feet.

Torres faced a two-ball, one strike scenario before sending the baseball over to right center field. The homer traveled 377 feet into the air before scaling the fence.
But again, this home run comes amid an 11-year odyssey. Torres first made his pro baseball debut in the Dominican Summer League back in 2015.
He spent time with the Triple-A affiliate the Memphis Redbirds before getting the call from manager Oliver Marmol and company. Torres batted at .339 in the minors featuring on base percentage of .452. He blasted two home runs out in Grind City while stealing nine bases and scoring 23 runs.
Torres originally appeared to be joining the Milwaukee Brewers back in 2015 following his Dominican Republic run. They signed him as an undrafted free agent following the ’15 MLB Draft.
His journey rose as one of the feel good stories of the Memorial Day weekend on the baseball front. Even the fans inside the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati cheered on Torres.
Fittingly, he became the last to score for the Cards with the game already out of reach as Marmol inserted him into the batting order. He went on to pound two hits and drove in two runners.
