Bulls rumors: Former Chicago exec’s Tyrese Haliburton draft blunder will have fans livid

The Chicago Bulls fired executive Arturas Karnisovas this past season, and amid the team heading into another rebuild period, reports have surfaced suggesting that Karnisovas cost the Bulls in a major way when it comes to the 2020 NBA Draft and potentially having Tyrese Haliburton on the roster.

The Bulls came into the 2020 draft with the No. 4 overall pick, which they used on Florida State forward Patrick Williams. However, the former Bulls executive reportedly did not consider Tyrese Haliburton a top talent should the team have added him to the roster that draft, as per Joe Cowley of The Chicago Sun-Times.

If the 2020 NBA Draft was redone today, Haliburton would no doubt be a top-five pick. As of now, that draft has produced only five NBA All-Stars in Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball, Deni Avdija, Tyrese Maxey and Haliburton. The current Indiana Pacers star guard was eventually selected by the Sacramento Kings with the No. 12 overall pick.

It’s true that several teams, not just the Bulls, passed on Haliburton. But if the aforementioned sentiment is true, Bulls fans are definitely not losing any sleep over the organization firing Karnisovas.

On the flip side, Williams has been a semi-productive player for the Bulls, just not quite No. 4 overall pick worthy production. This past season, he appeared in 72 games, including six starts, at a little over 20 minutes per game. He averaged a career-low 7.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists with splits of 37.2 percent shooting from the field, 34.7 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 72 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

And when it comes to Haliburton, he’s a two-time All-Star and led the Pacers to the 2025 NBA Finals, their first Finals appearance since 2000.
