Red Sox’s Trevor Story downplays ‘heroes’ narratives before return from injury

The Boston Red Sox are looking to split their four-game series with the New York Yankees. They are getting some reinforcements ahead of the game as well, as the Red Sox will welcome back Trevor Story and Roman Anthony for the series finale.

While fans are excited to get the two players back, Story is warning fans against a hero narrative, per Christopher Smith of MassLive.

“It’s not like heroes are coming back. We’re not looking at it that way. These guys have put in the work and done the things and performed on the field to get us to where we’re at and we’re just coming in to help that,” Story said.

Anthony had not played since May 4 agaisnt the Detroit Tigers. He was out with a partially torn tendon nd ligament in the ring finger of his right hand. He was hitting .229 with a home run and five RBIs before going down with an injury. Meanwhile, Trevor Story had not played since May 14, being out with a sports hernia. He was hitting just .206 with three home runs and 19 RBIs before his injury.

Anthony is the DH against the Yankees on Sunday, hitting first. He hit a ground-rule double in his first at-bat, but was not able to score. Meanwhile, Story is playing shortstop and hitting eighth on Sunday.

The Red Sox head into the game at 74-62 on the year, sitting in third in the AL East. They are 7.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the division. Still, they currently have the second wild-card spot in the American League.  The Red Sox and Yankees are still scoreless after the first inning of play.
