Raiders acquire extra draft capital after trading center to Jets

Recently, the Las Vegas Raiders wrapped up their preseason schedule with an 18-12 home loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Now, the Raiders are among the many teams making last-minute roster cuts and other moves in advance of the regular season, which is set to begin in two weeks.

On Sunday, the Raiders made an interesting move as training camp wraps up.

“The #Raiders are trading center Jordan Meredith to the #Jets, source said. He has started 19 games over the last two seasons,” reported NFL insider Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network on X, formerly Twitter.

Rapoport then reported on what compensation was coming back to Las Vegas in the deal.

“The #Raiders and #Jets are flopping 2027 6th and 7th rounders in the Jordan Meredith deal, I’m told,” he reported.

Meredith’s services as a starting center were no longer needed this year after the Raiders made a splash by signing former Baltimore Ravens starting center Tyler Linderbaum in free agency this offseason. The signing of Linderbaum gives Las Vegas a true building block on their offensive line, which will be tasked with keeping Kirk Cousins, and possibly also Fernando Mendoza, upright this season.

The veteran Cousins is widely expected to begin this season as the Raiders’ starting quarterback, but most experts are not dismissing the possibility of the number one overall draft pick Mendoza earning the job at some point during the campaign, as Las Vegas looks to see what it has in the Heisman Trophy winner.

In any case, the Raiders are set to get their regular season underway on September 13 with a home game against the Miami Dolphins.
