Memphis football rumors: Insider makes bold Charles Huff prediction after Tigers defeat UNLV

The Memphis football team got the Charles Huff era started with a big win over UNLV. Memphis defeated UNLV on Saturday, 27-21. A college football insider is making a bold prediction about Memphis head coach Huff.

“Charles Huff won’t be at Memphis for long. Wins everywhere. And last night was a jewel,” CBS Sports college football insider Brad Crawford posted to X, formerly Twitter.

Huff is in his first season at Memphis. He previously had successful stints with Marshall and Southern Miss. Huff made a bold statement after his Tigers defeated UNLV.

“This was a national statement,” Huff said, per Underdog Dynasty. “Not just about the score and not just about the game. But that the Memphis Tiger community is serious about this program and the direction this program is going. This was just one game, but the momentum it created, the statement that it’s making is huge.”

The Memphis head coach said there are specific reasons why his guys were so fired up to play.

“We’re a fourth quarter program,” Huff said. “That starts in January. When everybody else is just tag-touching a cone and feeling really good about themselves, we’re taking them into the deep water. That’s our process. We plan to win the game in the fourth quarter because we work harder than a lot of other teams.”

Huff wants to set a championship culture at Memphis. The Tigers are trying to get into a power 4 conference. Memphis had previously made an unsuccessful bid to join the Big 12.

“We’re Memphis,” Huff said. “Everything about our community that everything tries to tear down, we’re not. And selling the stadium out next week will make another national statement. We’ve got to improve football-wise — don’t get me wrong — but if we keep making the strides from continuity and community support, we can get to where we’re trying to go… Hopefully everyone can see that everything is aligning at Memphis.”

The Tigers next play Arkansas State on September 5.
