Buccaneers bring back Sean Tucker on $2.5 million contract

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are just two weeks away from kicking off their 2026 NFL season. The Buccaneers recently wrapped up their preseason slate with an ugly 19-0 loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

On Sunday, the team made a big roster decision as training camp wraps up.

“RB Sean Tucker agreed to a one-year, $2.5M guaranteed contract to remain with the Bucs, per source, along with incentives. Was due $3.52M on a restricted tender, and now he returns on a new one-year deal,” reported NFL insider Jeremy Fowler of ESPN on X, formerly Twitter.

Tucker signed with the Buccaneers in 2023 after going undrafted that year out of Syracuse. He saw more playing time with Tampa Bay after starting running back Bucky Irving missed a big chunk of the season due to injury, and clearly performed well enough for the team to want to bring him back.

Although Irving is back and healthy now heading into the upcoming season, Tucker still figures to see plenty of opportunities to show off his skills in the Buccaneers’ offense this year.

As a whole, Tampa Bay is looking to bounce back after an ugly close to the 2025 campaign, which saw them miss the playoffs altogether despite competing in the lowly NFC South. Quarterback Baker Mayfield in particular had a rough close to the season and will be looking to prove that it was a fluke as he attempts to earn another long-term contract with the team.

The Buccaneers will kick off their season on September 13 with a road game vs the Cincinnati Bengals.
