Buccaneers’ Baker Mayfield reveals brutal season-long injury battle on Netflix

With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Baker Mayfield looking to improve after a relatively disappointing season, there is no denying that the quarterback was dealing with a myriad of injuries that held him back. As the Buccaneers prepare for the 2026 season, and though Mayfield and the team are still in ongoing contract extension talks, the star would go through the injuries he played through.

In the recent season of the Netflix show “Quarterback,” Mayfield would give insight into playing through a “sprained MCL and PCL since Week 2.” It doesn’t stop there, as a biceps contusion that “affected his velocity” to go along with a shoulder injury as well.

“Bucs QB Baker Mayfield, on the Netflix series Quarterback, reveals he played with a sprained MCL and PCL since Week 2. He also had a bad biceps contusion that was bruised and affected his velocity. Then the left shoulder injury vs. Rams. Bonus for toughness, but it affected his play,” Rick Stroud of The Tampa Bay Times wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Buccaneers’ Baker Mayfield was “going through a lot” last season

Mayfield had been on the injury report for 10 weeks in the regular season, some for different reasons, as it was known that the 31-year-old was hurt, but the extent hadn’t been known. Even Buccaneers teammate Lavonte David from last season, as he’s now retired, would say that Mayfield was “going through a lot” on “The Arena” podcast.

“The season’s over now, I can talk about it,” David said. “Man, Baker was going through a lot, bro. Baker had a lot of injuries that you didn’t expect a quarterback to play through. You know what I’m saying? He had the oblique injury, he had the shoulder injury, he had a lot of things. You know, ankle injury, knee injury. . . . He was really trying to push through and really trying to be the player that we needed him to be.”

Last season for Tampa Bay, Mayfield threw for 3,693 yards to go along with 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions as the team looks to improve after an 8-9 record.
