Bryson DeChambeau puts up Incredible Hulk numbers with US Open drive
Bryson DeChambeau has been to the top of the golfing world when he won the U.S. Open in 2020 and 2024, and he has also failed to make the cut in a number of high-profile tournaments, including this year’s Masters. There are no guarantees about well he will perform at Shinnecock Hills in this year’s U.S. Open.
3… 2… 1… LIFTOFF!

The classic course in Southampton, New York is known for its unforgiving nature when players fail to keep the ball in the fairway. DeChambeau could have problems with the course as he plays the first two rounds, but he had a memorable effort on the third hold that he played in the opening round.
DeChambeau and his group started on the back nine, and he unleashed a powerful drive on the par-4 12th hole. The 469-yard hole required a full DeChambeau blast, the golfer delivered more than he bargained for. DeChambeau took his usual big swing and he met the ball cleanly. As it soared up the middle and over the fairway, the ball hit the pavement on its descent back to earth.
The ball got an extra kick once it hit the road and instead of hitting his drive 350 or 375 yards, DeChambeau’s blast came to rest 427 yards away from the tee box.
His King Kong effort off the tee led to a birdie on the hole and sent DeChambeau heading in the right direction in the U.S. Open. He also birdied the 13th hole before stumbling with bogeys on the 15th and 16th holes to return to even par. The wind at Shinnecock Hills was playing havoc throughout the opening round of golf.
