Bruins’ Marco Sturm drops brutal Viktor Arvidsson Game 6 update

The Boston Bruins had a great showing in Game 5 against the Buffalo Sabres, despite losing one of their most consistent forwards, Viktor Arvidsson, to an injury in Game 4. Arvidsson’s absence was felt at times for Boston, but Alex Steeves and Michael Eyssimont stepped in admirably, with Lukas Reichel also drawing out of the lineup. The Bruins might have to roll with the same lineup for Game 6, according to Joe Haggerty via X, formerly Twitter.

“Marco Sturm said ‘unless there’s a miracle’ he doesn’t expect Viktor Arvidsson (upper body injury) to play in Game 6 tomorrow night,” Haggerty reported.

Haggerty also noted that the Bruins had the same lines and pairings in practice as in Game 5. After playing their best game since Game 1, it isn’t a surprise that Sturm is sticking with the same group that pushed the series to Game 6.

Boston had an embarrassing showing the last time they were on TD Garden ice, losing both games at home, with the second one coming after a 4-0 deficit in the first period. The Bruins made it their mission to take Game 5 to prove not to go out with a whimper in front of their home fans, and the Sabers could see the Bruins’ best on Friday night.

Bruins fans haven’t been overly happy with Sturm’s usage of top prospect James Hagens. The Bruins signed him to his entry-level deal at the end of the regular season, but he hasn’t been in the lineup since Game 3 after a rough showing. He seemed like a fit to replace Arvidsson in the lineup, but Sturm opted for more grit.
