Christian McCaffrey officially turned 30 this offseason, but don’t expect the San Francisco 49ers star running back to spend much time thinking about his age. As NFL training camps get underway around the league, McCaffrey made it clear he’s focused on one thing: continuing to improve.

According to Nick Wagoner, the All-Pro running back brushed aside any concerns about reaching the milestone birthday.

“I don’t make a big deal out of the whole age thing,” McCaffrey said. “That does nothing for me. I just think about continuing to grow, continuing to go out there and ball. It’s funny, you turn 30 and people bring it up and then two days ago I was 29. So for me, I just keep focusing on getting better. That’s all I’ve ever done. That’s all I’ll ever do. And again, I feel so fortunate to play this game. I want to play as long as I can. I have no intention of slowing down.”

It’s hard to argue with that mentality. Running backs often face questions about longevity once they reach 30, but McCaffrey has never been interested in outside narratives. That’s exactly what the 49ers need.

San Francisco enters the 2026 season with high expectations once again, and a healthy McCaffrey remains one of the league’s most dynamic offensive weapons. Whether he’s carrying the ball between the tackles or creating mismatches as a receiver, few players impact an offense the way he does.

Father Time is undefeated, but McCaffrey isn’t worried about that battle just yet.

Instead, he’s focused on becoming a better player than he was a year ago. If his performance matches his confidence, the 49ers could once again find themselves among the NFC’s top contenders by the end of the season.
