Broncos’ Jonathon Cooper arrested on 2 counts of domestic violence
Denver Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper was arrested late Thursday night. He is already set to appear in front of a judge on Friday, with another hearing scheduled for Monday.
Reports indicate that Cooper, who is 28 years old, was arrested around 11 p.m. on Thursday on two counts of domestic violence, along with criminal mischief, according to TMZ. The alleged incident took place in Colorado, where Cooper was booked into the detention facility just after 2:30 a.m. Friday morning.
“Jonathon Cooper is behind bars in a Colorado jail,” reported TMZ. “After the standout Broncos linebacker was arrested Thursday night around 11 PM, TMZ Sports has learned. It’s unclear what led up to the arrest, but the 6th-year pro is being held on two counts of domestic violence, as well as criminal mischief.”
The Denver Broncos have not yet issued a statement regarding Jonathon Cooper’s alleged domestic violence incident. The organization may be waiting for more information before addressing the situation.
Cooper was a seventh-round pick by the Broncos in the 2021 NFL Draft. After beginning his career as a backup, the former Ohio State Buckeye emerged as a consistent starter by the 2023-24 campaign and has remained a vital piece in Denver’s defense.
He hasn’t missed a single game the past three seasons and has been one of the most efficient pass rushers on the defense. Cooper ended last season with 50 combined tackles (23 solo) and eight sacks.
Jonathon Cooper signed a four-year, $60 million contract extension in November 2024. Just over $32 million of that deal is guaranteed. The 2026-27 campaign will be the third year of that contract.
