Broadcaster forced to apologise after Pep Guardiola’s X-rated comment during farewell speech

Pep Guardiola appeared to get a little carried away during his farewell speech at Manchester City.

After ten trophy-laden years of success, Guardiola will leave City as the greatest manager in the club’s history.

His pending exit was announced on Friday, with former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca set to replace him at the Etihad Stadium.

City ended their 2025/26 Premier League campaign as runners-up on Sunday afternoon as they entertained Aston Villa on the final day.

The match provided Guardiola with the opportunity to say goodbye to the fans who have witnessed so much success during his tenure.

Even though they lost 2-1, the managerial great was on hand to give a passionate and emotional speech on the pitch afterwards.

A nervous Guardiola paid tribute to the supporters, players and staff, and gave an X-rated description of his decade at the club.

“Let me finish what I said a few days ago, that they didn’t allow me to say, but I’ll say it… it has been f****** fun!” he said.

Guardiola was referencing his message to fans upon the news of his exit, in which he went along similar lines.

However, the choice of language in his goodbye speech prompted an apology from Sky Sports.

Commentator Seb Hutchinson said: “I dare to apologise on behalf of Pep Guardiola for the language there.

“A man whose emotions are running very high on a special, special day.”

Sunday’s match was also the first to welcome fans into the expanded north stand which has been renamed in the manager’s honour.

‘The Pep Guardiola Stand’ will also be joined by a statue to celebrate his ten-year spell that delivered a stunning 20 trophies.

More farewells

Bernardo Silva and John Stones made their final appearances for City in the defeat to Villa.

Both players have played crucial roles in the club’s six Premier League title wins under Guardiola, and will also leave in the summer.

They have made a combined 755 appearances across all competitions, making them City legends.

Silva and Stones gave their own speeches to the City crowd on a day full of farewells in Manchester.
