Bright 21-year-old Brit lands blistering 91-second KO to light up Anthony Joshua undercard

Mikie Tallon wasted no time in dispatching Orlando Pino in the early portions of the Anthony Joshua vs Kristian Prenga undercard.

The super flyweights had been scheduled to meet over eight rounds at the Jeddah Superdome in Saudi Arabia, but 21-year-old Tallon needed just 91 seconds.

Tallon forced Pino onto his heels early and walked the Venezuelan veteran onto a peach of a left hook to the liver, leaving his adversary wincing in pain on the canvas.

It marked yet another eye-catching victory for Tallon, who is quickly establishing himself as one of Britain’s best lower weight prospects.

Speaking in the immediate aftermath of his victory, he said: “Yeah, one hundred per cent [I thought it would go longer].

“I thought I might get him out of there with a body shot, but in round five or six.

“But you’re not getting up from them.

“That’s definitely one of the best shots of my career.

“We have been practising it in the changing rooms just then.

“Tapping away and finding that little spot, and we found it.

“He spat out his gumshield, so I knew he wasn’t getting up.”

Tallon’s latest triumph improves his unblemished record to 15-0.

The Liverpudlian has become a fixture on Saudi-backed cards ever since he was picked out by Turki Alalshikh to compete on the Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford open workouts last September.

Tallon rose to the occasion, dropping California’s Christian Robles twice en route to a lopsided unanimous decision win.

The impressive display led to another big opportunity two months later on the Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn II bill, where he sent Fezan Shahid’s head into orbit with a booming uppercut.

Next came a slot on the Tyson Fury vs Arslanbek Makhmudov undercard in April against Argentine Olympian Leandro Jose Blanc.

Tallon crumpled Blanc with a body shot in the opening stanza, in almost identical fashion to his stoppage earlier tonight.

With esteemed trainer Joe Gallagher at the helm and two-weight world champion Natasha Jonas managing his career, Tallon is in good hands.

And while his future looks bright, there are certainly stiffer tests to come.
