Amanda Serrano sets retirement date after rival Katie Taylor bows out on top

After witnessing Katie Taylor retire on her own terms, Amanda Serrano now intends to do the same.

Taylor bid an emotional farewell to boxing in front of 83,000 adoring fans at Croke Park on Saturday night, dominating the previously unbeaten Flora Pili to become a three-time undisputed champion.

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as Taylor placed her gloves in the centre of the ring to mark the end of a career that has broken barriers for women’s boxing.

A large part of her legacy can be attributed to her three thrilling fights with Serrano, contested between 2022 and 2025.

Their second bout, which served as chief support for the farcical cross-generational clash between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, drew in 74 million viewers on Netflix.

Meanwhile, a third and final fight would garner an audience of 6million for their standalone main event.

Their trilogy also set unprecedented financial benchmarks for the female side of the sport, with Taylor and Serrano sharing a record-setting $18million prize pot for their final contest.

When is Amanda Serrano’s final fight?

Now, with women’s boxing in a significantly healthier place, the second half of one of the sport’s most iconic rivalries is ready to hang up her gloves.

Taking to social media earlier this week, seven-weight world champion Serrano declared that she would be having one last dance in January 2027.

And like Taylor, she also intends to do it in front of a home crowd in Puerto Rico.

“My next fight is in January, and that is the last one, guys,” Serrano, 37, said during a recent TikTok live stream.

“So I’m saying it is the next and last match.”

Last time out in August, Serrano defeated Lucrecia Anabella Manzur of Argentina to retain her WBA and WBO featherweight titles.

It marked the 50th win of her professional career (50-4-1).

However, she was unable to break the all-time women’s record for career knockouts.

She is currently tied with Hall of Famer Christy Martin with 32.

If January does indeed prove to be her final fight, then it will also be her last crack at the record.

Her proposed opponent has yet to be announced.
