Brewers, top outfield prospect agree to $31 million contract
The Milwaukee Brewers are trying to build on their success. Milwaukee signed one of their top prospects to a long-term deal on Tuesday, per ESPN.
“Outfield prospect Luis Lara and the Milwaukee Brewers are in agreement on a seven-year, $31 million contract extension that includes three club options, sources tell ESPN. Lara, 21, has dominated Triple-A this season. Deal maxes out at $79 million,” Jeff Passan reported on X, formerly Twitter.
Lara is ranked no. 91 on MLB.com’s list of 2026 Top 100 prospects in Major League Baseball. In Triple-A this season, the slugger is hitting at a .338 batting average. He has posted seven home runs and 27 RBIs.
Lara’s offense was electric coming out of the gate this year.
“Lara’s overall production is the real story. Through 26 games, the Venezuela native has slashed .347/.439/.561 with 15 walks and 12 steals — third-best in the International League. His .561 slugging percentage currently stands 218 points higher than his mark last season,” MLB.com reported in April at the start of the baseball season.
The slugger is also an excellent baserunner. He has 18 stolen bases already this season, and is known for his hustle when getting around the diamond. Lara had 44 stolen bases in the 2025 season.
Lara has yet to make an appearance for the Brewers, but slugging this way will certainly earn him a look from the team’s front office. Milwaukee is currently first in the National League Central.
The Brewers are trying to break through in the National League. Despite having a lot of success the last few seasons, the team hasn’t been able to make the World Series.
The Brewers play the Athletics on Tuesday. Milwaukee is 41-23 on the season, with seven wins in their last 10 games.
