Brandon Aiyuk adds to 49ers drama with ‘Go Commanders’ message

The San Francisco 49ers and Brandon Aiyuk stretched their rift to Father’s Day. Aiyuk’s name became linked to the Washington Commanders Thursday by one analyst. The wide receiver added new fuel to that fire Sunday.

Aiyuk posted a Happy Father’s Day message via his social media feeds. But then ended with saying “Go Commanders go!” three times. Even dropping a “Hail to the Commanders” message too.

The embattled past 1,000-yard wideout is sounding like he wants in on the Commanders. Aiyuk shares a prominent connection already: Quarterback Jayden Daniels and Aiyuk teamed together at Arizona State before the former transferred to LSU. He and Daniels remain close friends, though.

Aiyuk wouldn’t be the first prominent 49ers wide receiver to head to D.C. Washington traded a fifth rounder for Deebo Samuel before the 2025 season. Samuel ended catching 72 receptions for 727 yards and scored five touchdowns. Except Samuel remains unsigned and it appears he won’t return to the Commanders.

Aiyuk is in full troll mode in the meantime. He’s called out the 49ers while speaking in front of his cell phone. Aiyuk snapped at the 49ers’ front office too, dropping “dumb” and “stupid” labels toward them. But many analysts and fans are viewing Aiyuk’s actions as erratic behavior, making him potentially un-tradable.

The wideout appears to be persuading a cut from the 49ers, which allows him to sign anywhere including Washington. That means severing ties from the $120 million deal he once signed after his fourth season in the league. Now his “Go Commanders” post further emboldens his interest in joining the NFC East franchise.
