Bol Bol suffers partial Achilles tear with TNT Tropang 5G

Former NBA player Bol Bol reportedly suffered a partial Achilles tear during Friday’s game with TNT Tropang 5G in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, ending his tournament run.

According to Jonas Terrado of the Inquirer, TNT team manager Jojo Lastimosa confirmed the injury after the game.

“TNT team manager Jojo Lastimosa confirms that Bol Bol is done for the rest of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup due to a partial tear on his Achilles,” Terrado posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Lastimosa adds that they have talked with two potential replacements who can fly in before Sunday’s Game 3.”

Bol suffered the injury after taking an awkward step while driving toward the basket. Video of the play quickly circulated online, raising immediate concern about a potentially serious lower-leg injury.

Homer Sayson of Spin.ph later shared additional details after consulting with a league physical therapist.

“After reviewing the video of Bol Bol’s suspected injury, a league PT gave me his professional opinion,” Sayson wrote on X.

“‘Mukhang ruptured Achilles.’”

“The therapist said Achilles tears cause the ‘loss of plantarflexion,’ which doesn’t allow a player to put weight on the injured leg.

Bol, 26, joined TNT Tropang 5G after spending parts of six seasons in the NBA with the Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic and Phoenix Suns.

He last appeared in the NBA during the 2024-25 season with Phoenix, averaging 6.8 points and 2.9 rebounds while shooting 52.5% from the field and 34.4% from three-point range across 36 games. Bol averaged 12.4 minutes per contest during that stretch.

TNT now appears set to move forward with a replacement import before Game 3 as the team continues its Commissioner’s Cup campaign without Bol.
