Blue Jays send down left fielder with putrid .507 OPS

The Toronto Blue Jays have had a rough 2026 MLB season so far, currently sitting at 25-28 entering their next series against the Miami Marlins. Concerns about a potential hangover from their devastating Game 7 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in last year’s World Series have proven to be more than justified thus far.

The Blue Jays have seen some major regression from several key players in their hitting order this year, and recently, they made a big decision regarding a player who was a big part of their run to the World Series last year.

“Blue Jays send Davis Schneider down to Triple-A. He’s hitting just .127 with a .507 OPS and -0.5 bWAR in 38 games,” reported Talkin’ Baseball on X, formerly Twitter.

Indeed, Schneider has been suffering through a brutal hitting season so far in 2026, but that hasn’t always been the case. The 27 year-0ld made his MLB debut with the Blue Jays in 2023, recording a home run in his first major league at bat, and also made some key plays during Toronto’s World Series run last year.

In Game 5 of the World Series last year, Schneider hit a home run on the very first pitch of the game, in what turned out to be the Blue Jays’ final win of the season.

However, clearly, no one in the organization is above a demotion to the minor leagues if their struggles get bad enough, as Schneider’s have this year.

The Blue Jays will hope that the bats can start to wake up sooner rather than later as they continue their season on Monday for the first of three games against the Marlins at 7:07 pm ET in Toronto.
