Blue Jays make crucial Addison Barger injury announcement
As the Toronto Blue Jays have been dealing with a myriad of injuries with many players, the one player that the team has been waiting to see more of is Addison Barger. While the Blue Jays star has been going through his injury recovery, the latest news from the team has officially announced his return.
Toronto would announce Saturday that Barger has been taken off the 10-day injured list (IL) and will be active for the game against the Los Angeles Angels. With the move, as Barger has been dealing with an ankle injury, outfielder Yohendrick Piñango has been sent down to Triple-A.
“ROSTER MOVES: INF/OF Addison Barger reinstated from the 10-day IL and will be active today,” the team’s account posted on X, formerly Twitter. “OF Yohendrick Piñango optioned to Triple-A.”
This comes after the news on Friday that Barger was traveling to the team with the expectation that he would be reinstated from the IL, per Shi Davidi.
Blue Jays’ John Schneider on Addison Barger, Yohendrick Piñango
Barger is looking to turn around his season with the Blue Jays, as so far in the eight games he’s played, he has gone 1-for-19. The 26-year-old is no doubt determined to get back to how he played in the spring, as even manager John Schneider knows the talent that Barger has.
“We all know what he brings to the table,” Schneider said, via MLB.com. “Hopefully, it’s some intentful swings. Hopefully, it’s some slug and a good approach. He’ll be right in the thick of it.”
Consequently, with the move, Piñango is sent down after hitting a .423 batting average in the 10 games he’s played.
“It’s a tough decision, obviously, with his performance. We’re just looking at the runway for him and the runway for others, and it didn’t really match up,” Schneider said. “I could see him being part of us again at some point. He definitely showed well.”
At any rate, it remains to be seen how Barger plays after the IL stint and if Piñango will come back to the majors, as Toronto is 17-21 ahead of the Angels clash.
