Blue Jays’ John Schneider shares pivotal Max Scherzer injury update

The Toronto Blue Jays received some encouraging news on Max Scherzer, as he’s been on the injured list since the end of April with forearm tendinitis and ankle inflammation. He recently got the green light to face live hitters, and he is set to throw a rehab outing during the weekend, according to Andre Zwelling of Sportsnet.

“Max Scherzer will throw a rehab outing with Buffalo on Sunday. Pitch count could be 45-60 depending on how he feels, per Blue Jays manager John Schneider. Schneider says Scherzer will likely throw another rehab outing next Friday but ‘he’s taking it one start at a time,'” Zwelling wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

That’s good news for the Blue Jays, but it’s still uncertain when he’ll be back in full force for the team.

Weeks ago, Scherzer noted how frustrated he was with his forearm injury, especially with the MRI coming back clean.

“It’s confusing as heck because I have a clean MRI. That’s what has everyone pulling their hair out. The MRI is saying, ‘Hey, you should be good,’ and I’m like, no.. the check engine light is on,” Scherzer said via Hazel Mae of MLB International on X, formerly Twitter.

The Blue Jays are probably looking to take their time with Scherzer, especially since he’s a seasoned veteran in the league.

It’s been an up-and-down season for the Blue Jays this season, as they’re currently 27-29 and are in third place in the AL East.

They have a matchup against the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday evening.
