Dodgers’ Roki Sasaki exits Braves game after medical staff examines his pitching hand

The Los Angeles Dodgers watched Roki Sasaki get red-hot after the MLB All-Star break. The pitcher took to the mound against the Atlanta Braves courtesy of manager Dave Roberts. But he exited Wednesday’s game with an MLB Injury scare.

Team trainers and fellow Dodger teammates attended to Sasaki at the hill. Sasaki sustained a blister on his right hand, his throwing hand. He wound up leaving in the fourth inning with LA up 3-2. Sasaki also left with runners on third and second base.

Sasaki ended his night pitching in 3.1 innings. He allowed six hits total, including one home run to Matt Olson, who pounded a 400-footer over to right field that put the Braves up early 1-0. But Sasaki made up for the costly homer by forcing a ground out and strikeout in the next two at-bats. Sasaki even turned to the rare forkball pitch twice, both hitting 87 and 89 miles per hour.

But the right-hander came after the Braves with a concoction of different pitches. He trusted his four-seam fastball the most in firing off four pitches there. Sasaki turned to the splitter three times to close out the bottom of the first.

He struck out two more batters while allowing four runs. Los Angeles and the National League East leader locked into a an offensive showcase especially after Sasaki left.

Atlanta and LA exchanged leads and ultimately, entered the seventh inning tied up at 5-5. Tommy Edman powered one home run for the defending World Series champs. He, Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman all powered two hits through seven innings.
