Blackburn v Coventry prediction
Coventry make the trip to Lancashire on Friday night needing just one point from their final four matches of the Championship campaign to guarantee themselves promotion into the Premier League for their first top flight season in 26 years.
Frank Lampard’s side currently boast a 12 point lead over third placed Millwall with just four matches of the season to play, leaving them needing just a point from their trip to Ewood Park to guarantee promotion.
The Sky Blues have been stuttering towards the finish line in their bid for promotion, winning only two of their last five matches including back to back 0-0 draws against Hull and bottom of the table Sheffield Wednesday in their last two outings.
The West Midlands side do have a very strong recent away record though, with 13 points picked up from their last five games, a run of fixtures which has seen them concede just once on the road since the end of January.
Blackburn have their own reasons to pumped up for Friday’s match though as they continue their battle to avoid relegation, currently sat four points above the drop zone but having played a game more than all of the teams around them.
Michael O’Neill’s side have lost only one of their last six matches as they’ve continued to tick over their points total as they look to extend their eight-year stay in the second tier.
Rovers have only won two of their last 10 matches though, and just one win in five leaves them vulnerable to be caught up by the chasing pack, some of whom have managed to find some form as the end of the season approaches.
Only Sheffield Wednesday have picked up fewer wins and fewer points at home than the Lancashire side this season though, though one defeat in their last five at Ewood Park suggest they’re on the right track, even if they’re winless in their last four off the back of three consecutive stalemates.
Coventry are unbeaten in their last 10 matches against Blackburn, a run including clean sheets in their last five meetings and wins in their last three – it’s difficult to see the Sky Blues not confirming promotion on Friday night, a 2-1 away win perhaps the most likely outcome.
