Harry Kane offers big contract update as Ballon d’Or chase continues

Harry Kane has confirmed that he has started talks to extend his deal at Bayern Munich beyond 2027.

The England captain has been a hit with the Bavarian behemoths, winning titles in two of his three seasons so far.

The 33-year-old has 98 Bundesliga goals in 95 appearances since his arrival.

Last term’s 61 in 51, and his performances with England at the World Cup, have him among the favourites for the Ballon d’Or.

Kane‘s future with Bayern Munich has consistently been a hot topic with some pundits insisting he should return to the Premier League.

After his breakthrough at Tottenham, he eventually became their record goalscorer with 280 goals in 435 games for the club.

Meanwhile, in the Premier League alone he netted 213, leaving him 47 behind legendary centre-forward Alan Shearer.

But rather than return to England it appears likely he will now extend his time in Germany.

What did Harry Kane say?

“The first meeting started last week,” Kane told reporters after Bayern’s 5-1 home win over Stuttgart in their Bundesliga opener.

“I’m 33. It’s probably going to be, not my last contract. But it’s a big contract for me to sign.

“They need to make sure I’m happy. They obviously need to make sure they’re happy… There’s no panic from either side.

“I’m sure we’ll get to a point where both sides are happy.”

Harry Kane’s Ballon d’Or hunt

Kane must now go on a real tear in the Bundesliga and Champions League if he wants to win the Ballon d’Or.

New Barcelona star Rodri is likely to be his main competition after Spain won the World Cup.

However, should Kane score a host of goals and star in Europe before the ceremony, he could wrestle it away from the ex-Man City man.

In two appearances so far, though, he’s yet to score or assist.

In his first outing after the World Cup, he helped Bayern Munich win the German Super Cup.

Meanwhile, in his first league game he put in a brilliant performance as they beat Stuttgart 5-1.
