Bills TE makes stance clear on new stadium ‘Mr. Brightside’ debate

A new era will begin with the 2026 NFL season as the Buffalo Bills open their new stadium, and tight end Dawson Knox wants to continue their “Mr. Brightside” tradition.

During an interview with Centered on Buffalo, hosted by former Bills player Eric Wood, Knox was asked about the team using “Mr. Brightside” as their fourth quarter song. While Knox doesn’t seem to know if the Bills will continue using it, he will be “extremely disappointed” if they don’t.

“All I’m gonna say is it better be or I’m gonna be extremely disappointed,” said Knox. “I don’t know who I gotta talk to, who I might have to pay off under the table.”

Knox credits himself and fellow tight end Dalton Kincaid for making The Killers’ iconic song the Bills’ fourth quarter song. It was used once, and they were over the moon. Luckily, their conversation about the song was mic’d up, and the rest is history. Fans love it, and now it’s a tradition.

“Even when the music stopped, they were continuing to sing the chorus while the defense is out there,” Knox said about the Bills Mafia singing the song. “Those little moments kinda fed into that tradition that I hope stays in Buffalo forever.”

The Bills’ usage of “Mr. Brightside”

Knox was mic’d up for the Bills’ game against the Pittsburgh Steelers during the Wild Card Round of the 2024 playoffs. He and Kincaid were seen singing “Mr. Brightside” on the sideline.

From there, the team began using it during their fourth quarters. It must have been a relatively new tradition, as one of them says, “This is the longest they’ve ever played it.”

There are only a few months before fans will find out if they continue to use it. The Bills’ new stadium, New Highmark Stadium, is set to open on June 30, 2026. Their season will begin in September. That is when fans can see if they continue to use “Mr. Brightside” during fourth quarters.
