Ben Stiller condemns ‘disrespectful’ Knicks fan behavior towards Spurs supporters
Amid multiple incidents of Knicks fans allegedly harassing Spurs supporters following New York’s Game 3 loss, actor and longtime Knicks fan Ben Stiller condemned the behavior. Videos circulating on social media showed several confrontations between Knicks and Spurs fans, some of which escalated into physical altercations.
Stiller took to his X account to condemn the behavior.
“Being a Knick fan doesn’t mean being disrespectful to Spurs fans in any way…we get caught up during the games but we gotta show respect to our fellow humans…”
A spokesperson for New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani also issued a statement.
“New Yorkers are understandably passionate about the Knicks, and the overwhelming majority of fans watched the game last night in ways that were both safe and fun. But the fights and other disruptive incidents — including assaults on police officers — in various parts of the city are unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”
During recent media availability, both Spurs and Knicks players also condemned the behavior exhibited on Monday night.
“My thoughts of course [are] that we can’t forget it’s a game,” Victor Wembanyama said. “We’re just playing a game out there. I am all for passion, but [with] the respect of each other. It’s unacceptable.”
New York Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns also weighed in, saying, “The game is built off of respect and passion, We want everyone to respect each other. We want everyone to enjoy basketball at its purest state. It’s the NBA Finals. There’s no better place to watch basketball. Leave the physicality to everyone on the court.”
