Ben Johnson’s unamused 2-word response to Caleb Williams landing on Madden 27 cover

On Wednesday, it was announced that Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams will be on the cover of Madden 27. When asked about it, head coach Ben Johnson was virtually speechless, per Ian Rapoport.

All he could do was muster up two words:

“No reaction.”

The cover of Williams is very similar to the iconic photo of Michael Jordan striking the famed Jordan pose against the Chicago skyline. Additionally, Williams expressed a desire to be the first NFL player to be on the cover of Madden back-to-back, on the Kelce Brothers’ New Heights Podcast.

He was given a 90 percent rating.

Furthermore, Williams is part of an elite company of legendary quarterbacks who have been on the cover of Madden. The others included Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, Brett Favre, Donovan McNabb, and Dante Culpepper. He is also the first player on the Bears ever to be featured on the cover of Madden.

Since last season, Williams and Johnson have forged a unique bond while helping to revitalize the Bears. Chicago went 11-6 and won the NFC North in Johnson’s first year as the head coach. They made it all the way to the NFC Divisional Round before losing to the Los Angeles Rams 20-17 in overtime.

Meanwhile, Williams set a franchise single-season record with 3,942 passing yards, along with 31 touchdowns and a QB passer rating of 90.1. He also had 388 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns.

Heading into the 2026-27 season, Williams faces high expectations, with some anticipating he will win the 2026-27 NFL MVP.
