Bears’ injury bug gets worse with Luther Burden III groin issue
The Chicago Bears have been dealing with some injuries lately as training camp continues ahead of the upcoming NFL season. The Bears’ injury woes have been highlighted by safety Coby Bryant, but he isn’t the only player who is banged up as camp continues.
On Sunday afternoon, the Bears got a troubling update on one of their most promising offensive weapons.
“#Bears WR Luther Burden III suffered a groin injury recently in practice and should miss a little bit of time, source says. One to keep an eye on,” reported NFL insider Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network on X, formerly Twitter.
Burden III had a strong rookie season for Chicago last year, and figures to step into an even bigger role this season after the team’s trade of DJ Moore to the Buffalo Bills this offseason, clearing out some space in its wide receiver room.
At this point, it’s unclear just how much time “a little bit” truly means, but Chicago will certainly hope that the groin ailment isn’t anything serious, with its new season set to get underway in exactly five weeks.
With preseason coming up this week, it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Bears exercise extra caution with Burden III and their other injured players to avoid unnecessary injuries.
In any case, the Bears’ regular season is slated to get underway on September 13 with a road game against the Carolina Panthers. Chicago will get its preseason slate underway on Saturday at home against the Cleveland Browns.
