Baylor basketball loses potential lottery pick to NBA Draft

Baylor basketball has been reeling over the last few seasons ever since winning a national championship in 2021, but 2025-26 may have been the Bears’ most disappointing season yet. Despite coming into the year with a whole heap of NBA talent, Baylor never competed near the top of the Big 12 and missed out on the NCAA Tournament without ever really threatening the bubble.

Now, that NBA talent is heading off to the league. On Tuesday, star wing Cameron Carr announced that he is going pro after an excellent season despite the lack of team success, via NBA Draft analyst Jonathan Givony.

Carr spent the first two seasons of his college career at Tennessee, but he only appeared in 18 games and never got into the rotation. That was not the case at Baylor, where Carr was clearly the best offensive player on the team from the minute he joined the team, and he proved it night in and night out.

In 2025-26, Carr started 34 games and played nearly 34 minutes per game, so he carried a heavy load for this Baylor team. He averaged 18.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game in that time, shooting 49.4% from the field and 37.4% from 3-point range.

Carr is a tough shot taker and a tough shot maker, making those shooting percentages very impressive considering his willingness to fire with a hand in his face. That type of scoring ability will translate to the NBA and there will be plenty of teams that would love to have Carr off the bench next season.

Currently, Carr projects as a late lottery pick or possibly a mid-first round pick if he slides past the top 14. He is not entering the transfer portal, so it is a certainty that he will be in the draft.

Carr does have some holes in his game that include shot selection and defense. While he has the tools to be a quality defender, it was a bit of a roller coaster last season as he suffered dips in focus on that end. If an NBA team can fix that, they could have a two-way star on their hands.
