Avalanche’s Jared Bednar goes full Kenny Atkinson with ‘analytics’ line that’ll fall on deaf ears
The Colorado Avalanche can say that they made some strides in the postseason, but unfortunately, it came to an end against the Vegas Golden Knights in the conference finals as they were swept. It may be easy to say for some to say that the Avalanche were outmatched, but head coach Jared Bednar thinks otherwise.
In Kenny Atkinson fashion, Bednar started to talk about how the series wasn’t as bad as it looked.
“Sometimes I think we did a good job,” Bednar said via Mark Lazerus of The Athletic. “Like I said before, you’re looking at this series going into this final game — the analytics are tight, they’re close in all aspects.”
That probably wasn’t the best thing to say in that moment, especially with Atkinson saying it during the Cleveland Cavaliers’ series against the New York Knicks.
Cale Makar believes that the Avalanche put themselves in the best position to win, but it just wasn’t enough.
“Sometimes you question the bounces that we should be getting and just don’t happen,” Makar said. “I felt like we were generating enough to create chances, doing enough things to find the back of the net a couple times, and yeah, it just comes down to one chance, and I felt like every game in this series was like that.”
“The first three games I watched, I was kind of in awe of what was happening,” Mackenzie Blackwood said. “It didn’t feel real. Today just kind of piled on to that.”
The Avalanche will now have the chance to improve their team this offseason with hopes of getting over the hump.
