Auburn loses grip on 4-star to SEC rival
Auburn football sustained a new loss via the College Football Recruiting trail Monday. This one arrives two days after grabbing four-star edge rusher James Pace III. But the Tigers’ latest recruiting setback involves four-star running back Kingston Miles and SEC rival Missouri.
Miles flipped from the Tigers to the other Tigers, confirming his decision with Hayes Fawcett of On3/Rivals. Miles ends a 21-day commitment with head coach Alex Golesh and his staff, though.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound running back originally turned down Mizzou for Auburn. He even told Christian Clemente of 247Sports that “everything is great at Auburn.”
“The people and culture are amazing,” Miles said to Clemente in his June 1 interview with the outlet. “I have great relationships with the staff and coaches. It’s like home away from home for real. It’s a great environment, great atmosphere and great people.”
So what changed this time for the St. Louis prep star? Kenny Van Doren of On3/Rivals believes Missouri’s success with talent from Miles’ St. Mary’s High School plays a role.
“Given his high school’s recent success at Missouri, it’s easy to jump to conclusions on why Kingston Miles chose the Tigers. Running back Jamal Roberts will play a pivotal role again this season in Columbia, while wide receiver Kevin Coleman Jr. will begin his NFL career this fall with the Dolphins,” Doren wrote.
But Auburn absorbs a brand new recruiting loss for the 2027 cycle. Fellow SEC rival Texas grabbed a four-star edge rusher target in JaBarrius Garror back on June 12. Auburn still holds a No. 9 ranking for the ’27 class despite losing Miles.
