The Chicago White Sox fell to the Cleveland Guardians in the ALDS. As they made their improbable run to the postseason, play-by-play announcer John Schriffen was there every step of the way.

That is until today.

On Tuesday, the White Sox decided not to extend Schriffen's contract, per Scott Merkin of MLB.com.

Meanwhile, Chicago radio host Matt Spiegel is unleashing his feelings about Schriffen that he's been holding back, per 104.3 The Score.

“I’ve held back my feelings for the better part of two years since being very vocal on them in year one because I didn’t want to punch at a guy who was out here just trying to do his job,” Schriffen said. “But this is a moment for me to be honest. I think he was terrible. I think the White Sox can do better, and they will do better.”

Schriffen had been the play-by-play announcer for the White Sox since 2024. Before then, he had worked for ABC News, NFL Network, and CBS Sports.

During his time, he came up with a few signature calls. Among them are: “South Side, stand up!” and “We ain't taking that!” In February 2024, Schriffen called his first home run dramatically thanks to prospect Tim Elko. He also went viral for famously spilling a nacho helmet on the air.

Meanwhile, Spiegal has been on 670 The Score for three decades.

Chicago made the postseason for the first time in 2021. Additionally, they have overcome three straight 100+ loss seasons with a new manager, a dynamic, and the use of young players.
