The South Carolina football team got shellacked by Alabama on Saturday night. The loss adds even more pressure to win on South Carolina's embattled head coach Shane Beamer. Beamer's seat is considered to be on fire right now, but the Gamecocks may not move from him just yet.

“For South Carolina to fire Beamer, it would cost the program roughly $28 million. That number drops to $22.1 million at the end of December,” On3 reported.

Beamer has struggled recently at South Carolina. His team went just 4-8 during the 2025 season, which was deeply frustrating for fans. The team has just one conference win since the start of the 2025 campaign.

In 2026, South Carolina is out to a 2-2 record. That isn't satisfactory to many South Carolina fans.

“Sources have told On3 that pressure is mounting on Beamer, who has a new athletic director, Jeremiah Donati, who did not hire him,” the outlet reported.

South Carolina has wins this season over Kent State and Towson.

South Carolina's loss to Alabama was ugly

South Carolina lost to Alabama on Saturday, 49-18. The Gamecocks allowed Alabama's quarterback Keelon Russell to throw four touchdown passes.

“They were explosive and really talented. We knew that and they showed that tonight……we were just too inconsistent tonight,” Beamer said in his postgame presser, per the school.

South Carolina's 2026 season is not out to a great start. The team is already 0-2 in the SEC, with losses to the Crimson Tide and Mississippi State.

“It's disappointing and frustrating to be as up and down as we are right now. We're just not playing enough winning football,” Beamer added. “….if you lose the explosive play battle and you lose the turnover battle, then you are going to lose…. I have to continue to put these guys in better positions to play more consistently.”

The Gamecocks next play Kentucky at home on Saturday.
