As the Michigan football team let go of a last-second touchdown by the Iowa Hawkeyes to lose the contest, 20-19, the program looks to fix the errors and bounce back after a brutal defeat. With the Michigan football team walked off by Iowa, head coach Kyle Whittingham points out the biggest flaw that the team has dealt with this season.

The Wolverines would commit eight penalties in the contest on Saturday, costing them 75 yards, which adds to their total of 32 flags thrown against them this season. Whittingham would speak about the issue, saying that the “bottom line is we penalized too much again today.”

“I think before today we were somewhere in the middle of the country and penalties — 50th or 60th, something like that,” Whittingham said, according to 247 Sports. Now we're probably back in the top 30 or 20. So it's excessive, and we've got to do something about it. It was a couple of really costly ones. Particularly on that last drive.”

“We've just got to keep coaching it and keep pressing on our players' minds that penalties have consequences in games,” Whittingham continued. “I mean, they extend drives, they bog drives down. It's got to continue to be a point of emphasis and continue to clean it up.”

A Hank Brown pass to Reece Vander Zee for 16 yards won the Hawkeyes the game against the Michigan football team in the very last second, which no doubt would give any team major frustration. Whittingham would reveal what his message was to the Wolverines after the brutal loss.

“It was a tough locker room, but I told them: ‘Hey, first of all, it's a shame that we let that one get away from us because we had it.' I told them, sometimes in life you get knocked down, and things seem tough. How are you going to overcome that?” Whittingham said.

“That's life,” Whittingham continued. “We've got to go right back to work on the next opponent.”

At any rate, Whittingham and Michigan look to limit the penalties and bounce back against Minnesota next Saturday.
