The Maryland Terrapins are 2-2 on the season after suffering a 54-3 blowout loss to the UCLA Bruins on Saturday. Things just haven't quite clicked for the program since hiring Mike Locksley as head coach in 2018, as the team has only recorded three winning seasons in the past eight years, and it looks like that's where the Terrapins are trending once again.

After being blown out by the Bruins on Saturday, rumors are now suggesting that Maryland plans to move on from Locksley, according to Pete Nakos of On3 Sports. In his latest column, Nakos claims it is a matter of if, not when, the program fires the 56-year-old.

The popular college football insider claims that UCLA head coach Bob Chesney was someone on Maryland's radar last season, had the program decided to move on from Mike Locksley at the end of the 2025-26 campaign. Nakos connects Saturday's blowout loss with the years of poor finishes to the rumors of the Terrapins deciding to switch things up at head coach.

For now, Locksley remains in position and will maintain that role until further notice. But considering Maryland plays in the Big Ten, the season is not going to get any easier. The Terrapins have key matchups this year against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Ohio State Buckeyes, Wisconsin Badgers, USC Trojans, and Penn State Nittany Lions.

Mike Locksley was viewed as a prime hire back in 2018, as he worked as offensive coordinator for the Alabama Crimson Tide under Nick Saban. But for whatever reason, Locksley's first tenure as a head coach just hasn't gone smoothly.
