Michael Porter Jr. enjoyed a breakout season with the Brooklyn Nets after spending seven seasons with the Denver Nuggets. However, his performances dropped a few levels after the 28-year-old failed to earn his first All-Star appearance, something he recently claimed was down to a lack of motivation as there was nothing to play for, with the Nets finishing the season 13th in the East with a 20-62 record.

Now, Draymond Green has fired a warning towards the forward, claiming that teams in the future are likely to hold his drop in performances against him. With Porter Jr. set to enter the final year of his 5-year, $179.3 million max contract, Green believes he will have to play much better in order to convince teams to sign him.

Porter Jr. finished the season with averages of 24.2 points, 7.1 rebounds and three assists per game while shooting at almost 37% from the three-point zone. However, he was shooting at almost 40% before the All-Star break while averaging close to 26 points per game, which dropped to around 21 points post the snub.

The Nets star himself claimed that with the Nets out of playoff contention, he let his ‘foot off the gas.’

“We couldn't make the playoffs, I couldn't be an All-Star, so I let my foot off the gas. I wasn't in the weight room as much, I wasn't preparing as much, and my three-point percentage dropped. But even the crazy shots I was shooting this year, I still was almost 40%,” he said.

Green, who himself is a four-time All-Star believes that the drop is bound to make teams believe that he was playing on a ‘bad team’ merely to ensure that he ends up earning his first All-Star selection. Now, Porter Jr. will indeed need to return to his pre-snub form, especially if he wants teams to show interest when and if he eventually becomes a free agent at the end of the coming season.
