Just last season, the New England Patriots made it all the way to the Super Bowl, and Drake Maye finished second in MVP voting. This year, the team and their franchise quarterback have really been struggling. New England just lost their Week 3 matchup in embarrassing fashion, as the Jacksonville Jaguars blew them out by a score of 35-6.
Maye was particularly bad. The quarterback had just 199 yards and no touchdowns. It was his third straight game with fewer than 200 passing yards. Even worse, the quarterback struggled to secure the football. The former number three pick threw two interceptions and had a baffling fumble in which he lost grip of the football on a passing attempt despite there being no rush around him.
After the game, Maye said that Jared Wilson, the team's center, was bleeding, and that blood got on the ball and caused it to slip out of his hands.
