The Jacksonville Jaguars easily beat the New England Patriots on Sunday, 35-6, in a game where Drake Maye committed three awful turnovers. After the game, Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said he is seriously worried about his team.
After the Patriots’ tough Week 3 loss, Vrabel told the media that his “concern level is very high for this football team,” per Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald. Vrabel said this after New England struggled in almost every part of the game.
The Patriots fell behind early and could not make the game close. Their offense struggled to sustain drives, and Maye continued to struggle at the start of the 2026 season.
Maye's three turnovers against Jacksonville included two interceptions and a bizarre fumble. When New England was down 35-6 in the fourth quarter, Vrabel took Maye out and put in Tommy DeVito.
After the game, Vrabel talked about how Maye played. MassLive Patriots reporter Mark Daniels quoted Vrabel saying Maye “knows what to do but needs to do it better.”
This is important because there were high hopes for Maye in his third NFL season. He was an MVP candidate last year en route to the Super Bowl, so the Patriots expected him to improve. Instead, Maye has had trouble with turnovers and consistency in the first three games.
In the first three weeks, Maye has only thrown one touchdown and has seven turnovers—six interceptions and one fumble.
The Patriots are now 1-2 after a blowout loss to Jacksonville. Vrabel has a lot to fix before the team faces its next opponent, and his message to Maye is clear: he knows what to do, but now the Patriots need him to make it happen.
