The Detroit Pistons made a move this weekend to trim their roster down with the waiving of veteran guard Garry Harris on the eve of training camp, as per Michael Scotto of Hoopshype.com. The move brings the Pistons roster down to 14 standard contracts, just one shy of the league’s maximum of 15. And while nothing is yet official on the Jalen Duren front, the move appears to be a potential precursor to his arrival, as per ClutchPoints’ insider Brett Siegel.

The Pistons host Media Day on Monday, Sept. 28, and with the team cutting Gary Harris, that opens up the necessary spot to potentially sign Jalen Duren. Duren has been in a hold out with the Pistons amid being far apart on new contract negotiations.

The team had acquired Harris this offseason alongside fellow veteran Taurean Prince in a trade with the Milwaukee Bucks that involved Caris LeVert and draft assets. Last year, the veteran guard suited up in 48 games, including two starts, for the Bucks at a little over 13 minutes per game.

He averaged a career-low 2.7 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists with splits of 44.2 percent shooting from the field, 41.2 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 88.9 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

In the case of Duren, he’s coming off a career-year in which he was selected to his first All-Star appearance. The former lottery pick averaged a career-best 19.5 points while playing in 70 games and shooting 65 percent. If Duren cannot agree to a new contract with the Pistons, there remains the possibility of him accepting the qualifying offer and entering unrestricted free agency next offseason.
