Anthony Edwards gets message from Kevin Garnett after award challenge denied

Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves are upset that Edwards isn’t eligible for any individual honors under the 65-game award rule, even though Luka Doncic and Cade Cunningham are eligible despite playing 64 games each. An “Extraordinary Circumstances” appeal filed by Edwards and head coach Chris Finch was denied.

Nevertheless, Edwards received an encouraging message from none other than Timberwolves legend Kevin Garnett on X, formerly Twitter.

“Eff it! Go get Finals MVP then @anthonyedwards” Garnett posted.

Altogether, Edwards played in 61 games this season. He missed a significant portion of games towards the end of the season due to knee inflammation.

Despite all this, Edwards did put up a season filled with career highs. He is averaging 28.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per game while also shooting 48.9% from the field. In February, he won the NBA All-Star Game MVP.

Meanwhile, the Timberwolves finished the season at 49-33 and are the 6th seed in the Western Conference. They will face the Denver Nuggets in the first round, with Game 1 on Saturday.

Edwards is a four-time NBA All-Star and a two-time All-NBA Second Team member.

Along the way, Edwards has cultivated a bond with Garnett. They cut a commercial for Sprite in 2025, and Garnett has taken on the mentor role.

Garnett played for the Timberwolves from 1995 to 2007. He put a face to the franchise and became one of the most defining players of his generation.

He led Minnesota to the playoffs from 1997 to 2004. In 2004, they reached the Western Conference Finals before losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in six games.
