Another Caitlin Clark award shows she’s peaking at just right time for MVP race, playoff push
The Indiana Fever have their sights set on the playoffs headed into the last month of the regular season. Indiana is 23-12 on the season and sitting pretty at fourth in the WNBA standings. The Fever should have no problem making the playoffs if they continue getting excellent play from their best player.
Fever guard Caitlin Clark was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday, per The Athletic’s James Boyd. It is the fourth time that Clark has been named player of the week this season.
Clark averaged 25.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 9.7 assists per game over the last week. That is not too far off Clark’s season averages of 22 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game.
This hot streak from Clark comes at the perfect time as Indiana position themselves for a deep playoff run. It also puts her squarely in the running for MVP.
The hype is already starting to roll in for Clark. Robert Griffin III named Clark as his MVP pick on August 15th, placing her ahead of A’ja Wilson, Olivia Miles, Paige Bueckers, and Fever teammate Kelsey Mitchell.
Miles is certainly giving Clark a run for her money in the MVP race. The sensational rookie won Western Conference Player of the Week, though she only averaged 18 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game.
Clark is also an incredible leader for Indiana and, simply going by the name of the award, looks like one of the WNBA’s most valuable players.
Ultimately, wins and points are what speaker louder than anything else. If Clark puts her head down and keeps playing at a high level, she has as good a chance as anyone to win MVP this year.
Next up for the Fever is a road game against the Tempo. That contest tips off at 7PM ET on August 18th from Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.
